Hot Chili Oil & Hot Chinese Mustard

These are two of the first food pictures I took, December 9, 2010. The pattern of the sauces and the distinct lines between them just struck me as so beautiful. The surface tension between them stays intact. The mustard looks almost like a crescent moon, and the whole thing looks a bit like the yin & yang symbol, which is fitting for a Chinese restaurant. I also love that there's no sense of scale. This could be a full size soup plate, or a little condiment plate. You don't know!

Pan-Fried Noodles and Vegetables

Noodle Soup in Chinatown

I met O for lunch May 16, 2011, while he was on jury duty, and we went to a little Chinese place near the courthouse. It was pretty good and I thought this soup made a really great photo.

Cold Sesame Noodles

Now, see, these noodles are from the Mee Noodle Shop on Second Avenue, at about 50th street. They were pretty good, but they didn't have the peanut sauce in the mix, so they were a bit clean and fresh for my taste, when it comes to Cold Sesame Noodles. But I still love Mee.

Cold Noodles from Empire Szechuan

This is one of the most delicious dishes on the PLANET, I kid you not. They call them "Cold Sesame Noodles," but there is peanut sauce in it, too. And some strips of daikon radish and some sort of pickled crunchy vegetable sprinkled on top. I go through phases when this is the only thing I want to eat, period. Many thanks to O for introducing this vice to my palate.
